Dates: August 7th, 2023, to August 14th, 2023

Workshop Focus: Promoting Citizen’s voices during 2023 General Elections

In this exciting opportunity, we invite 20 participants, 10 from Quetta and 10 from Multan, to join us in Lahore for a residential workshop that will equip them with essential skills in digital storytelling, citizen journalism, social media advocacy, and digital/media literacy. Additionally, participants will receive orientation on fundamental human rights, civic education, voter education, and explore the concept of citizenship and its relationship with politics.

The primary objective of this workshop is to empower participants with the tools and knowledge to effectively engage with democratic institutions in light of the upcoming general elections, while also understanding the unique needs of marginalized communities and how to advocate for them. Through this transformative experience, participants will be able to reshape their relationship with democracy. politics and politicians, moving from a state of disempowerment to one of empowerment.

Towards the conclusion of the workshop, participants will collaborate on the development of a voter education social media advocacy campaign, utilizing platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter. This campaign will focus on documenting the concerns and demands of young voters in their respective constituencies, shedding light on the needs of marginalized and vulnerable citizens, and fostering a collective narrative that encourages healthier and more fruitful engagement with Pakistan’s democratic institutions.

Participants will actively document these stories and narratives, amplifying them through social media channels. Additionally, they will contribute to the production of a compelling 10-minute short documentary on voter education and the demands of citizens, which will be screened in their respective cities during a dedicated event.

This event, known as Maati Mela, will be organized in partnership with local universities in Quetta and Multan. The workshop participants from each city will collaborate with IRC to facilitate this event in their respective locations. Maati Mela will serve as a platform to showcase the works of the workshop participants, accompanied by a thought-provoking theater performance developed in collaboration with university students. The theater plays will explore themes related to voter education and citizenship.
