About Us
We at Maati TV believe in the power of storytelling. It is an art inherent in all of us. We want our content to embrace the diversity of Pakistan and challenge the notions of extremism with that of hope, acceptance, and co-existence.
Maati TV is Pakistan’s first web-based interactive channel and a product of the Interactive Resource Centre (IRC). Initially launched in 2011, the platform was revamped in 2016 to incorporate the digital millennial vision. With content geared towards the themes of human rights, democracy, and culture, the platform has been able to create a diverse audience which actively engages with the content.
An underlying theme of this work is also to present an image of Pakistan which we are all familiar with – a narrative drenched in peace, coexistence, and diversity. With mainstream media geared towards hard-hitting news, this platform aims to find narratives within Pakistan which promote multiculturalism and acceptance.
Maati employs various tools to develop these alternative narratives such as documentary short films, interactive theatre, citizen journalism, theatre, vlogs and online advocacy campaigns on various human rights themes. The content is generated through a combination of sources, which include a core team of filmmakers, storytellers, and artists as well as a larger network of student and community filmmakers, that we have built upon over the years. Currently, our correspondents are available in Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Mardan, Peshawar, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
