A citizen’s responsibility does not end with voting in the elections. The idea of a democratic government is engrained in interest aggregation and interest articulation. This can be done by providing constant feedback to the government in power to highlight key issues that the people of the country feel strongly about. This feedback can be given in many ways, such as using social media to highlight certain causes. Twitter has proved to be a very useful platform in the Pakistani polity. It provides direct access to the authorities in charge and they can alerted at the time of need. Another way of doing it is by joining a protest and making yourselves heard. If the government does not know that the population is agitated, concerns will never be forwarded. Lastly, it can also be done by joining a social movement highlighting certain causes. These feedback channels can prove very useful in pushing the government to adopt policies that promote justice, equality and development. It is our responsibility as citizens to voice our concerns throughout the democratic tenure and it is a right that must not be given away due to the sentiment that they will not be heard.
